I happen to agree 100% with you on this, other than the lib bashing.

I was merely pointing out that sales of large American vehicles has had very little to do with "the market" and much more to do with tax laws. Although, I suppose one could always consider the tax laws to be part of the market that everyone must factor in.

You might note that with all of Bush's new found interest in biofuels, he has not found any interest in switching the 179 deduction to favor fuel efficient vehicles, a switch which would contribute much more to lowering our foreign oil bill than will biofuel production. Of course, since the Big Three have been addicted to gas hog margins and are not up to speed on fuel efficient vehicles, a sudden switch of the 179 would in fact be an example of what conservatives are always claiming: It would hurt our economy to take action on global warming! ROTFLMAO!

Of course, I can see the conservative appeal of a massive farmer subside, coupled with continued subsides of Detroit, vs. actually wanting to accomplish something more efficiently via switching the 179 (or, say just getting rid of it, which I would back quite happily).

For something really funny, look at the Alternate Motor Vehicle Credit, which is a faint stab at this, and LOL, has a phaseout to penalise the Jap's for being first in this market (Toyota is the one hit LOL!). God bless America!
