I think Rambi would have voted for him too, as would I. But the man is not the ill clothed off the street urchin car salesman he appears to be. He has studied with some of the best opera singers, and sung some world class operas. Rambi's only point (at least as I understood her) was that this man really worked for the acclaim he is now getting. She was only cynical about how he was being perceived (ignorant man off street opens mouth and out comes opera).

Isn't it good he worked for it? Sure, you can buy the drama and believe he just happened to sing like that, but really, isn't it better when people work for what they want, and get it because they work for it? Isn't that far more responsible? I'm not sure I understand why you are upset with Rambi.

After reading your several posts, I think you are the one confused. You seem to be very mixed up about the object of my cynicism.

This is about the SHOW, not about Potts himself. NO one has said anything derogatory about Paul Potts at all. He has a fine, trained instrument and he deserved to win. I have praised him repeatedly, his hard commitment and dedication. I have never said otherwise.

I am cynical- meaning I distrust the motives and sincerity--of the show's producers who portrayed him as this sad sack walking in off the street when he is no such thing, and I believe that these show come up with this stuff "acting from base or selfish concerns". They want a story that will grab people, and they play them up as much as possible to get an audience involved.
And I disliked intensely the column about his "void of a life filled with rejection and disappointment". Baseless and insulting.

Your last sentence shows you missed the point of everything I wrote, and also what others have said. Nothing I wrote was about Paul Potts being insincere and I hope people voted for Mr Potts because of his great talent and not because they bought into the melodrama some tried to create about him.
As hard as he's worked, he deserves to enjoy this success based on admiration and appreciation for his gift, with no hint of pity.
