I'd be amazed if one percent of the US population had ever heard of him.

Most people have no knowledge of the scribblers who provide the ideas that run this world. If you know Marx, and read the opinions of the Left Wing, you can almost pull out the direct thought print. I constantly read explanations by the left that reflect the thinking of Chomsky. The people writing them may never have directly read him. They may not even know his name. but they are influenced by people who have. Same thing with right wing thinkers, in fact with all thinkers.

For instance, this whole world runs on the two basic positions of Aristotle's Metaphysics and Epistemology, [that this is the real world, and reason is the way to understand it.] But hardly anybody is aware of that.

Think of it in terms of the parlor game, "The six degrees of separation of Kevin Bacon." It assumes that all people are connected by just six people. "Who do you know who knows someone who knows someone."
