What a great story.

And it's never too late! Helen Hooven Santmyer (spouse's great aunt) had her novel And Ladies of the Club... reissued when she was 88 and in a nursing home dying from emphysema, and it became a bestseller. Up til then she'd had only some small works published by the Ohio State U. Press. But like our other Cinderellae, she had worked very hard- Wellesley, Oxford, one of the first female Rhodes scholars, and always writing. The book just happened to get noticed by someone with influence.

It's sad to think of all the talent out there that doesn't get that lucky break, though.
