The left wants to avoid socialist, liberal and communist------"progressive" appeals to young people who think it means "being with it-----part of the in crowd".

What we are seeing is the classic use of "Front Groups" by the hard left to sell their Agenda. This technique was perfected by the Communists starting at the turn of the 19th Century. When you know that your organization, unadorned, is not palatable to the general public, hide your agenda by using one-issue "front groups" to push it.

Some of the more benign versions of this are, for instance, the "Sewer Socialists" of Minnesota. They never talked Socialism, just better public utilities, and got elected on that platform. The Civil Rights movement was always heavy with Communists, because they would spend the time and energy to collect money under banners like "Free the Scottsboro Five!"

Nowadays, the premiere issue of the Left is "Environmentalism." They can't sell "Government run everything" under the Socialist/Liberal banner anymore. But they can sell it as clean water and air.
