Bloomberg was a Democrat before he ran for mayor of New York City. As a Democrat, he would never have made it through the primary, which as you know, was initially scheduled for 9/11/01. It was postponed for the obvious reason. If I recall correctly, he was trailing his potential Democratic foes in the polls until 9/11, and then won handily with a strong endorsement from Rudy Giuliani. Arguably, Bloomberg is an accidental mayor. An excellent mayor I might add.

If he runs for president, it will be interesting to see which party he hurts the most. Common sense would suggest that he would hurt the GOP nominee, but maybe not. I'm surprised that we have not seen a three-way polls. I suspect that we will see one before the end of the weekend.
