re: Not a single statement in that speech either directly says anything about imminence, or gave me any feeling that any massive threat was imminent.

A smart guy once told me you can tell a great liar be how close he gets to the edge of his lie without going over. He knows exactly the false impression he is trying to make... otherwise he wouldn't be that good at getting right to the edge...

"Knowing - realities - must not ignore - threat - gathering - clear evidence - peril - final proof - smoking gun - mushroom cloud"

Now what do you think they were trying to convey with those words? What feeling?

Not a single statement in that speech either directly says anything about imminence, or gave me any feeling that any massive threat was imminent.

He didn't say it was imminent. He said it would happen if we didn't invade Iraq and depose Saddam. It was so blatant a ploy some of us didn't believe him even back then; most don't believe him now.
