Yes, some on the edges may have made that assumption (I am NOT a Chomsky or Krugman fan- they are way over the top--mine at least- and Ward Churchill types should be beyond any pale), but many others ask these questions, not to place blame on us, but to understand what has happened and why. I don't see that the examination of theses questions is anti-American, but what any intelligent person does when trying to put together a complete picture with all factors considered.

If the ME has that view of us, acknowledging this and factoring it in doesn't mean we agree with it or condemn ourselves to having committed these "great sins", only that we allow a possibility of some contribution, either blindly and with no ill intent or as a complete fallacy with NO basis and only believed by "them". It isn't some confession of causative guilt or as a justification for what happened.
IMO of course.
