"you don’t just come out and tell the enemy that."

If you ask me, the ONLY thing he was telling anyone in his open letter to the President was that the United States should stand up for the interests of the UNITED STATES, (and not for anyone else's).

The so-called 'Pottery Barn rule' is utter and unmitigated CRAPOLA, and as the Governor said, we do *not* 'own' all the centuries old conflicts of the Middle East.

(The only thing we 'own' is responsibility for AMERICAN NATIONAL INTERESTS.)

Now, as far as the very mention of the word 'withdraw' (despite the known fact that it was in EVERY Pentagon and Rumsfeld plan for Iraq since before the war against Saddam began...) being described as 'telling the enemy' something that they don't already KNOW, I believe that is a silly comment.

EVERYBODY 'knows' the inexorable direction for these events. Everyone in the region, (both 'allies' of the moment, and 'enemies' of the moment), and most everyone else in the rest of the world, too. So, to rationally discuss strategic alternatives for the nation is hardly the same as revealing classified tactical details. :-)
