And maybe that is defining another difference between a liberal and a conservative. A conservative doesn't become conservative without looking at and dissecting the facts. I want my outcomes to be better outcomes than past outcomes. And yes.......the decisions I make are in my best interest......but they are also designed to be harmonious with regards to my relationships and the well being of my entire group/tribe/family. I know that goes along with a socialist pov, but I believe that wanting what is best for mankind is natural and necessary. But unlike liberals, if something fails I don't insist that we continue down that same path. I love reading about the failure of Socialism, but at the same time I hope we are creative and intelligent enough to find a system that is fair and equitable for everyone.
