But how big where the marches? I'm not saying that you didn't have such a campaign, there is a small minority that will always be against any war, not matter what the justification (and then another group of paranoid hyper-partisans Democrats who are against any war actions conducted by a Republican administration no matter what the justification). But that's the fringes, not the mainstream of the Democrats or the left.

It doesn't take a very large percentage of the country supporting an idea to get a demonstration.

You also had people who weren't against the war on principle but thought that it would be a practical disaster ("brutal Afghan winter" etc.) I'm not sure that people who had this viewpoint, but who didn't morally oppose the war, would be prone to demonstrate, but I suppose a few did.
