A dirty bomb in the city would have much greater effect. Imagine having the financial consequences of having to vacate a square mile of lower Manhattan.

OTOH, an abandoned square mile of cornfield in Iowa ain't that big a deal.

I just heard that the Russians are turning the area around Chernoybl into a wildlife sanctuary. Apparently all sorts of species that had not been present before the melt down are coming into the area.

Of course, they all have five legs and three eyes, things like that.
