And we will give that monster great status if we surrender in Iraq as many seem to want us to do. The results of that would be paid for for decades to come. The blood bath would unrivaled. Yet many Democrats are calling for just that for only one reason, they could paint it as a Bush failure.

Nothing like selling your country out just so you can gain power.

In the context of the Cold War, such thinking was understandable.

(But it is important to learn from history... and not be locked into outmoded policies --- such as supporting the 'dictators-of-the-day' for transitory reasons.)
