"Is nationalism a good thing? Just asking the question." That is a "it depends" question. It can be a good thing if it is used to build a cohesive identity that is used to foster civilization. If people are willing to make some sacrifices for the general good, for example. It is bad when it is used to foster a "them vs. us" mentality. The former builds roads, extends civil rights to all citizens, funds a space program. The latter starts wars.
