Zeus,

I can't remember the last time I was in Church, but I'm sure it was for a wedding or funeral because I haven't attended a Sunday service in decades. I have no relationship with the Church other than going to Catholic grade school. The elderly "penguins" probably weren't fully qualified to teach some of the academics, but overall the teachers and priests gave me a sense of right and wrong that IMO made me a much better person. My flaws are all my fault. They did their job to the best of their ability. I sometimes consider writing a nice check to say thank you even though I'm not active at all. My experience and that of all my friends that also went to Catholic schools was a positive one. It's that simple.

The difference between us is that I believe there is a percentage of bad priests, bishops etc... out there that more or less matches other institutions. The absolute number is large because the Catholic Church is large. IMO, the solution will require different recruitment procedures because right now they are obviously getting some people that don't belong in the job.

The other difference is that I think people that try to destroy an institution that is generally doing a lot of good because they have a political agenda that conflicts with some of its teachings are essentially doing evil. They are willing to damage many people for their own gain.

Maybe I'm a little lose with the world "evil", but I call them the way I see them.

When a hungry poor man steals a loaf of bread from a rich man, that's an understandable crime and easily forgiven.

When a rich man steals a loaf of bread from a hungry poor man, that's an evil act.

When men create an institution with the supposed intention of helping society and then use it to transfer wealth from the bottom up, that's an evil act. Those men that understand it's true function and continue to support it are also doing evil.

When politicans do things they know are not in the best interests of the country in order to shift power to themselves or their party, they are doing evil.

When politicians do things they know are not in the best interests of their own country because of relationships and contributions from people more concerned about foreign countries than the US they are doing evil. So are those that are swaying them if they are US citizens.

I see a lot of really rotten people out there, but I only see a small percentage of priests that fit the bill.

Let's put this to rest. We don't see eye to eye on this and that's OK.
