If Patton had had Ike's job in 44, the war would have been over by the fall, instead of the next spring.

One thing I can tell you about Mac. He is TO THIS DAY still idolized in the Philippines and probably in Japan and frankly IMHO if we HADNT had Mac Japan today might have been a very different nation. Mac, luckily for us, had the gonads to IGNORE Washington and did the right and practical thing in Japan. Course in Korea that attitude got him fired. jdn
