<<Well, at least WWII had a better result that recent wars, say Korea,>>

In Korea there was a pattern where the Chinese would mass attack, push back the Americans and then break off. Finally a smart guy figured out why the Chinese would break off, their supply lines were poor and they'd stop when they were outta ammo. The new tactics, instead of fall back and regroup, became counter attack when the Chinese would break off. That changed the whole flow of the war from the Americans losing ground into the Americans gaining ground.
