That all sounds sadly familiar. We weren't in the $15k league for any of our stuff but the confusion, double billing, no-one-will-pay-so-just-wait-them-out stuff, all drives me bananas. We have several low level doctor/hospital bills that are simply getting rebilled to us each month while, simultaneously, we are told, they are working their way through the insurance systems.

Incidentally, of the three insurers I have, medicare has been the best in that it's almost totally predictable, once you learn the rules. My wife's health insurance is basically, "we ain't going to pay until you've checked with everyone else and then we'll think about it." But that's City University in NYC in lots of respects.

I suspect we'll all have much more to say about this once we've seen Sicko.
