Perhaps the main reason for the Afghani campaign was to deny Al Qaeda an opportunity to have a base of operations, where they could live, rest and train - and prepare for future operations. Now, the Gaza strip has become such a place. That is a problem for us, and a victory for the jihadists. AQ's design and mission is based on 1. strict enforcement of adherence (by Muslims) to their version of Mohammed's teachings 2. the conversion or slaughter of non believers to the Muslim faith, and 3. the imposition of sharia law on all human beings. Yes. Al Qaeda... is part of Qutb's "Avant-garde". They are professional revolutionaries who use their interpretation of Islam as a political ideology - which eventually should allow them to capture political power in their respective countries. Once they consolidate their regimes, they'll move on with their broader strategies. They would probably prove to be pretty nasty and oppressive rulers. The Afghan Talibs gave us a good example of what to expect. The "moderate" Muslims are NOT going to have a good time under their rule. Many would end up in islamic Gulags - getting "re-educated" so that they could become "real" Muslims. Anything short of an obvious defeat in Iraq would add to their movement’s credibility and momentum.

It's just too bad that our Congressmen/women don't/won't pay attention to just these facts....And it would be more than a little refreshing to have the MSM do the same.....What part of this don't they understand???? So many people continue putting their heads in the sand (or someplace else) regarding Iraq....WHERE do they think that AQ has been training? Who do they think has been funding the terrorists? In particular, we should be paying attention to #2 and #3 !!! 2. AQ is not interested in control of oil money for mission acomplishment. IMO AQ shows no sign of financial distress.
