I just put together a budget for my company's next four years, and based on the growth in health care costs over the last few years, we'll be paying $7,200/year per employee for health and dental in 2010. That's almost a minimum wage salary right there (not that I have any staff making less than three times minimum wage). And think about how that impacts a company like GM with all the legacy cost. No wonder they are a mess. Go to single payer and we could raise low end salaries. The extra tax revenue would help to pay for it... plus the reduced cost by taking out profit, middle men and marketing costs. Everybody is covered.
