Its part of a larger obsession with relics. I suppose the thoughts about "the grail" haven't calmed down quite as much as the concern for other relics, because of its inclusion in Arthurian and other stories/legends/fables.

If you put together all of the "pieces of the holy cross" that where sold in mid evil and early renaissance times, you could probably have built an arc for Noah. :)

The drinking vessel used by Christ was probably made of wood and likely has long since turned to dust.

That the Vatican might give this guy the go ahead is interesting though...
