Your link doesn't work, but I remember it from the time [you must have just read it now]. Yes, the experiment was about authority, but what was interesting was the torturing and the willingness of people to do it.

The torturing was as much part of the experiment as was the "authority".

The reason for the public interest in it, and our reference to it now, was the torturing. If it was merely about authority, it would have sunk without trace decades ago.
