Might depend on the size and loyalty of his base of support. We had the Minority Leader of the Senate here in Connecticut recently get arrested for Soliciting to Threaten. (that may not be exactly how the charge is worded) He approached a trash hauler with alleged mob ties who he had done constituency work for in the past and asked him to 'pay a visit' to his granddaughter's boyfriend, who he suspected had been abusing her. The trash hauler got right on it, told two of his associates to go 'bitchslap' the guy. We were joking around here the whole case rides on the legal definition of 'bitchslap.' He stepped down from the leadership, but the Senate seat is his as long as wants it. He remains popular, even a sympathetic figure.
