re: In any case taking this data and spinning it to "Children are sicker Now than in the Past", is a major distortion.

Sure, Tim knows more than the Harvard Medical School and JAMA. Unsupported, but he knows more.

re: Obesity has next to nothing to do with the health care system.

That's where you don't have a clue. A "system" support cheap prevention rather than expensive, lifelong treatment.

re: Birth weights are higher. Infant mortality lower. Many dangerous diseases that struck children have been eradicated or contained.

But under performing the single payer systems. We pay for a Mercedes and get a Chevy.

In any case taking this data and spinning it to "Children are sicker Now than in the Past", is a major distortion. Children in the past had far more acute diseases, and where more likely to have long term injuries that where not, or could not be treated. They where more likely to die as children, and then their average post-childhood life expectancy was also lower. They may be more likely to be overweight, but they don't face nearly the risk of chronic malnutrition, that they faced in the past. Birth weights are higher. Infant mortality lower. Many dangerous diseases that struck children have been eradicated or contained. And not all of the higher rates for the conditions mentioned is because of more people being sick, since we detect these problems more often now, having more ability, and in many cases more incentive to do so. That's probably particularly true of ADHD and other mental or emotional conditions.

Asthma, both type I and type II[the adult form] diabetes and obesity are reaching chronic levels among children in this country.......evidence of heart deterioration is becoming more common. The health of American children is so much poorer than in the past, some doctors are suggesting the current generation of children will not live as long as their parents. If this is not an indication the health care system is failing, then we must be experiencing a serious breakdown in our society. Take your choice.
