Regarding the surge....remember that when this was proposed and the issue was being debated the Administration said clearly that by September it would be possible to evaluate if it was proving a success. Now the story is changing. They are talking about next Spring...but the Republican Senators who are defecting already get it...it can't be maintained at current levels for an extended period. We don't have the troops or the equipment to do this the way it needs to be done beyond a few more months. And these Republicans need to stand for election next year. Watch John Warner. He will signal the shift from unhappily but quietly backing the Administration to something quite different.
