As a kid I always felt being jewish was a burden placed on jews by God telling us we were somehow the chosen people. Chosen to suffer perhaps??? How do you live up to those expectations? We are doomed to fail and doomed to disappoint. So you get israel out there thats a nation of mere mortals which behaves no worse and better than most other nations and yet they are held to a standard of behavior thats ridiculously high You have advanced my understanding a lot with that post. If Jews are the chosen people, that means that if you are not Jewish, you are not chosen. That kind of understanding must breed jealousy and hate on many different perhaps subconscious levels in societies in which Jews and Gentiles rub elbows. That Jews are generally bright and better off than the rest only inflames things. A definite source for antisemitism. And if you are Muslim, then you also think being Muslim makes you Chosen. The setting for a battle is therefore obvious. Plus, if you are a Muslim, you may experience cognitive dissonance when you see that Allah may be playing a joke on you by making your worldly circumstances so pathetic while those of the Jews are so much better. I think you are on to something. I am sure the idea has been developed in a much more sophisticated way, but I am not familiar with the literature. The real problem is that the Jews' worldly advantages are a simple accident of genetics. Somehow, someway the Ashkenazis long ago underwent a genetic mutation which lead to higher than average IQs. In turn, this mutation has lead to higher achievement on the part of Jews than on the part of others. And it was a random event, nothing predestined or religious in nature at all! Tell that to the nutballs who populate this place. If they had any sense, they'd find themselves an Ashkenazi spouse, freshen up the gene pool.
