Maybe not in Aluminum, but its true for many other resource extraction industries, esp. oil.

Also Alcoa is a pretty big aluminum company. Its competitors in the US mainly fell to, or where bought out by it, not by foring competitors. Its the 2nd largest aluminum company in the world, and its not the only large US energy or mineral company.

It does makes some sense that as the rest of the world gets its economy together, fewer of the top companies will be American. We're only 5% or so of the population and a bit over 20% of the world's economy (down from almost half after WWII, but most that change happened decades ago)
