If the Republican party were being run by the kook fringe the candidates would all toe the party line like the democrat candidates all have.

"WHEN is the last time the Republicans had a LEADING candidate that held those positions?"

If memory serves me, in 1980 the # 2 candidate for the Republican nomination was pro choice. The Reagan revolution changed the Republican party from then to now.

"In this election I'm looking for a President that can be middle of the road on most social issues, to the right on fiscal responsibility and pragmatic and VERY thoughtful on foreign policy.

I think Thompson, Clinton, Bloomberg, Gore, Giuliani and McCain could all fit those parameters."

Perhaps. I disagree that Mrs. Rodham-Clinton qualifies. She is a socialist to the core. That disqualifies her as a fiscal conservative. The fact that she is willing to lie about her socialist tendencies only cast further doubt on her character.
