There was a new type being tested that had known issues. Regarding that other superfast torpedo. I believe it's reported characteristics do not violate physics and so may be true. Russians also have a good sea-skimming naval surface missile. The WWII battle of Kurst was the largest use of armor in a war even up to this day. The Germans put up some of their latest tanks against a large number of conventional Russian talks. It was a battle of attrition, and with Stalingrad the major turning point of WWII. In contrast the Allied effort in Western Europe was a sideshow, but you'd never get that impression from US history of the era. Word was that the Russians had inside info on German battle plans for Kurst from their German agent (Lucy) within the German High Command. en.wikipedia.org wg
