A crash is inevitable.

It depends on what kind. If it's a generic one tied to the double rotor system, it's all over.

The Marines got too carried away with vertical takeoff this last 30 years. They should never have gone to the Harrier. It's just too short-legged. They couldn't fly it off the Carriers into Afganistan or Iraq. Same thing with their big ties to landing ship operations. Just too much of their force tied up in it. That's what brought on the Osprey.
