If believing that everybody should have human rights is now a conservative idea, then I am a conservative. That seems to be how it works, liberals having moved on to more "modern" ideas.

This is not universally shared by all? Your ignorance is astounding. From her post: My liberal ideas are that everybody should have human rights: rights to life, liberty and property. If people live in free societies that respect those rights, good. If they live in some benighted area where most of the population are slaves, that place should be reformed.
