The result might or might not be made up. It could be as polls can be designed to get whatever result one wants. But why take a poll and base a story on it? For the same reason advertisers put things like "9 out of 10 dentists surveyed recommend .." in their ads. They're pumping the idea of liberalism. Theres no other reason for the story. If the results said the younger generation is getting more conservative, are you saying the Times would not publish it? No they wouldn't.
