Birds of a feather flock together. Putin is selling him tons of armament. Chavez had this deal locked up then gave the order to nationalize. He may be denigrated here buy he's making some crafty moves. All in all it will mean less oil for the US and higher prices. I don't think you get to be the leader of a country like VZ or Russia w/o some smarts and a hefty wad of ambition. Then again, we have GWB.

The Russians will invest whenever, wherever, and however it will improve their position in the competition for natural resources. They will see Venezuela as a zero sum game: our loss is their gain.

During the cold war the Russians perfected the art of investing in chaos. Putin is a KGB thug in that tradition. The US, with it's current leadership, is totally outmatched.
