He clearly said "I think we can find a way to coexist with them."

This is what people were saying about hitler even AFTER he violated all treaties and agreements, AND invaded other countries...

Yes he was talking about the 1.4 billion Muslims in the world. And you bring up Hitler? How stupid is that?

Hitler disproves your very argument. For your analogy to work, you'd have to say that because of Hitler and the Nazis there's no way we could peacefully coexist with Germans. That's clearly not true. We've been allies with the Germans since the end of WWII.

Hitler and the Nazis show us that if we can defeat Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, we may well be able to have very good relations with the 1.4 billion Muslims of the world.

Re: [He clearly said 'I think we can find a way to coexist with them.'] "This is what people were saying about hitler...."

So?

Hitler was ONE PERSON, not ONE BILLION plus.

The logical 'connection' is tenuous at it's very best, totally specious at it's worst.

Also (if my recollection is correct) Hitler did not have any kids. Yet, I'm fairly *sure* that that 'one billion plus' people scattered all over the world are GONNA have plenty of kids... meaning future generations anon, down through time immemorial, that will have to be accounted for.

The more important question then becomes: how to craft an EFFECTIVE STRATEGY that will achieve our national long-term strategic interests?

In the context of World War II, I'm fairly sure that --- while killing Hitler would have fully been in our long-term strategic interest --- wiping out every speaker of the German language, or every German national or descendant of Germans, would most assuredly have NOT been in America's interest.
