It is still not good to have tens of millions more mouths to feed every year and decreasing supplies of food in storage.

I'm inclined to agree, but the history of the last 100 years or so seems to indicate that the ability of the planet to sustain population increases hasn't yet reached its limit.

Eventually, natural resource availability, famine, disease, war, and social policy, will work together to produce a stable global population. Where and when that may be continues to occupy social scientists around the world.

Edit: A UN study a few years ago concluded that the probabilities are that global population stabilizes at about 10 billion sometime around 2200.
