apparently, the US and Cuba rank pretty close when it comes to health care and longevity of life.

Maybe if you believe Castro's figures, and also if you don't adjust for the other factors I've mentioned here multiple times.

From everything I have heard and read, on average, gov'ts do a better job of providing health care coverage for their citizens than private industry.

If its really everything that you've read or heard than you aren't giving yourself the full picture. Esp. if you literally mean governments are better at providing health care, rather than the somewhat less extreme statement that they are better at paying for it.
