About 6 months ago, al-Maliki said that his army would be able to take over the fighting by May of 2007. Now, his commander says it will be another 2 years. His promise is conditional on unity in Iraq. We see no sign of political unity in Iraq so we are very skeptical of such promises.

Iraqi commander says that if the U.S. will hold the Sunni's arms behind their back and give the Shia lots of weapons then they will have the killing finished in two years.
