Funny outfits ... You mean robes?

Some artifacts denote authority and honor. Having a podium indicates a right to speak and to be heard. Sitting on a raised bench indicates higher authority. Judicial Robes are a symbol of distinction and honor.

Wigs are a means of compensating for hair loss. The stylistic wigs of the 16th century were almost a necessity because hair at that time tended to attract head lice.

Maybe they wouldn't look so silly if the Brits would consider updating to a modern style to continue the tradition.
