I read a book, before the war, called Virtual War- about the problems of remote wars for a democracy. Seems to me, after seeing all this, that book was pretty much spot on.

World On Fire seemed to be fairly prescient as well.

Actually if you subtract modern medicine which keeps alive folks who would have died in vietnam days, overall casualties are running not that far away from the vietnam rate. Its worse than you think.
