Why would he need to lie to protect the where abouts of someone in his movement?

The movement was huge and I'm not sure it's accurate claim he owned it. Anything that big must have had some extremists who were criminal and worthy of arrest for unwholesome activity.

If he had lied to protect the whereabouts of someone in the movement who was using drug/prostitution/burglary money to finance part of the movement, the part that was financing a bombing attempt on Governor Wallaces mansion. ... what would the lie be?

You seem to be suggesting something else like 'a noble lie'; which I would happily consider if you think you can provide the scenario but simply saying he is protecting the where abouts of someone who supports civil rights aint enough to argue your point.
