Platoon merely supported elitist baby boomers whine that they lacked the courage to defend their country, so the military draft should be abolished. The US gov & military quickly thereafter agreed that the draft could no longer depend on all young Americans to have the right stuff necessary to defend their country; therefore the current effective military, composed of our best and brightest citizen VOLUNTEERS, was instituted.

Oliver Stone argues it's not necessary to adhere to historical facts when making one of his movies. That attitude results in sham history which only gullible people find commendable or believable.
