Would you like the police to support themselves (the dept) by grabbing everything of value they could any time that they could? Don't really see that happening....this conversation reminds me of guys I've known that get on their soapbox over employers random drug testing. It's been way over 30 years, but I'll never forget the guys in the service begging me to pee in their sample cups for them. Seems that sort of thing tends to color ones view of things. P.S.....If I ever get caught with large sums of cash there is a fair chance I can explain its source or purpose(like the time I was going to pay cash for a dozer)......especially, given the time it takes to get to the state supreme court.
