Global crude production is currently in the mid-80 million barrel per day range. The point being, if Iraqi production doubled this afternoon, it still wouldn't mean much. And it's going to be quite the adventure bringing any untapped reserves on-line anytime soon with the country in complete chaos

Kevin Rudd is right. John Howard and Bush are simply making up Iraq policy on the fly.

There is little strategic reason for a major oil and gas exporter like Australia to be concerned with "oil security" in Iraq.

As quickly as Kevin Rudd replaces little John Howard, I don't think Australia will have much to do with Iraq going forward.
