My sister-in-law is heading to Thailand for thyroid surgery this winter. It costs about a third what it would cost in the States. They have no health insurance, and have raised two children in Alaska without insurance.
They are the radicals in our family.

I have seen some of the shows on tv where Americans go to Thailand and India for medical treatment. I don't know if I would have the nerve to do it though.

A number of years ago, I had a friend who was riding his motorcycle through New Zealand. He hit some gravel and ended up in the hospital. I think he only had to pay $10.00 for his treatment because New Zealand has a government subsidized health care system.
