I don't see anything wrong with Presidents granting pardons to right wrongs, or to grant mercy to offenders that have obviously changed their path in life. That's what the pardon power is FOR.

What I hate are:

1. Presidents pardoning criminals of their own party or even administration. Pardoning criminals in your own administration is the WORST kind of pardon, and shouldn't be allowed. It invites the President to commission crimes by his operatives with the promise of a pardon or clemency and being "taken care of" later. Ford, Bush I and now Bush II have done this.

2. Pardons for compensation of some type. This is a much lesser wrong than the above, but it still stinks.
