One of the worst doctors I ever had was a doctor in my network on my PPO plan in Silicon Valley. He was an old Marcus Welby type character, kindly and very nice. His waiting room was full of fundamentalist Christian literature. I just needed him to wrtie prescriptions for my chronic conditions mainly. He kept offering to write scripts for ANYTHING I might want, which I found peculiar.

One night, flipping through the cable channels, I saw MY doctor on TV. He was preaching on a public access channel. He said the apocalypse was going to happen in the year 2000, Christians would be taken up in the Rapture and the non-believers would be left behind in the Tribulation!

Obviously, he saw me as a Tribulation kinda guy, was willing to give me any drugs I might want, since I was doomed anyway. And if I was doomed, why bother with taking decent care of me either?

I got signed up with a new doc the next day.
