The gravitational force emanating from all of its usual sources is always attractive, and always decreases with distance. The gravitational force that we associate with empty space, on the other hand, may be either attractive or repulsive--AND IT INCREASES WITH DISTANCE. It is attractive when the energy of empty space is negative and repulsive when the energy is positive.:
