Sarkozy is conservative for a French politician, where Communists have some real power. Here, he'd be about as "conservative" as Teddy Kennedy.

Chirac was a conservative too. Don't you remember......he didn't want Muslim women covering their heads in public buildings and passed a law to that effect.......helping to lead to the riots of last year. That level of intolerance is the signature of a rightie, not a leftie.

Kemal Atatürk passed that same law on his fellow Turks almost 80 years ago.
Does that now make him a rightie??
