fully trained US Army Special Forces Operator Speaking of that, I have been meaning to ask if you knew Tiger's Father, Earl. The question came up because I haven't been able to tie the statements made by Tiger this week that "he grew up on Army bases" with his time-line. Earl joined the Army when I did, 1953. He retired as a Lt Colonel, nee Major, in 1975. That's when Tiger was born in Cypress. As far as I can figure out, Tiger never spent any time on an Army base. In any case, Earl had two tours in Viet Nam. The second one with the Special Forces. He was a DINFOS grad, so I suspect he was in some sort of Info job. In any case, whither you knew him or not, your reserve associations and Earl's celebrity should mean that you know of him. Any comment?

Who said Yon embellished anything? He repeated a story told by an unnamed "Iraqi official." For all we know, the "Iraqi official" got the story third-hand. The hypothetical "propagandist" I referred to would be the person who started the story, not Yon. My criticism of Yon is for passing it along without any attempt to verify the story -- or if he did verify it, he doesn't say so in his dispatch. That sort of low-grade "journalism" is exactly the kind of crap for which we justly criticize the likes of the NYT and MSNBC. I try not to support CBS and the rest of the MainScream Media. I sent Yon money to support his efforts. That's why I'm disappointed.
