The Canadian experience shows that a severely depreciated currency can be used as an opportunity to fix things that need to be fixed. When the C$ dropped to just above $.60 life there seemed good to me. Clearly the country did not crash and burn. It sure looks to me like they used the situation to get their house in order. If the US D goes from ~.80 to say ~.65 I see no end of the world scenario. Those who do have to explain the Canadian experience. Frankly, the real victims of such will be the Europeans.
